to hang or freez

i'm having problems with window 7, not only on one system and was wondering if ther is anything i can do, all of the windows games and some of the apps hang/freez for split seconds and verry often, so much so that it makes it hard to play, but it apears to only be the windows apps as all other software i install works fine, and getting the media player to play through another computer fails as well
